Obese people – lack of nutrition?

I saw programs on super morbidly obese people etc. The “experts” were talking about fat people and were saying how these obese people eat heaps of food and yet they are not getting nutrition but heaps of calories. They showed a spread on the table of what each one ate and the colour was white to brown……rice, pasta, potatoes, chips, chocolate – this was their basic diet. No colour!!! Actually, I lie….one lady did have colour on her table…..M&M’s!!!!!!!! So, I was wondering if the reason that they are eating far too much is because their body is saying “I’m starving”. However, it is starving for NUTRITION not calories but their body does not differentiate that. Also, I think it is a catch 22 where the starch they are eating sends up their GI, their insulin spikes and then they come down. So, they are continually hungry. Whereas, I have noticed since eating this way, I am mostly not hungry.

On top of that, these people often undergo surgery to “fix” this problem. However, it does not fix it. In fact, most of these surgeries end up with them losing weight but they often lack nutrition as part of the stomach or bowel etc. are by passed and nutrients are not absorbed that they body needs! Interestingly enough, at least one of the experts on these shows admitted that these people were nutritionally poor.

Low GI

The catchcry today is Low GI. Yet, if we follow God’s advice, the food is Low GI!!!! God never told us to put processed food in our mouths!!! If we try to stick to the most natural form of the food, generally speaking it is the healthiest!!!

Dr Oz

I picked up a few things from Dr Oz. One tip was not to be afraid of eating the same food every day for breakfast and lunch!!! In fact, he recommended that at least for breakfast and lunch that you stick to the same food every day. He said that it actually was much easier than changing all the time and people were more likely to stick to it. He also suggested 4 meals a day and the first 3 meals were pretty much the same – all except dinner. This is something that I was actually already doing!!!!!!!!!!!

In a study that I saw done, shown by Dr OZ, called “The Evolution Diet”, it was all carefully worked out for what the people needed per day and they needed to eat 11lb of raw vegetables, fruit and nuts – that is 5kg per day!!!!! It is a lot of fruit and vegetables!!!! However, they were ONLY eating fruit and vegetables and nuts, so if you are eating meat, fish etc. and probably some oily things like avocado that would help to bring that figure down a bit. Interestingly, in that study, the participants had to go to the toilet more often because of the extra fibre in their diet, their cholesterol came down by 25% over 2 weeks and there was some other health benefit that they had but I forget right now. It was really good!

I already knew about Gogi berries before his program, but I didn’t know about purslane which apparently is an excellent leaf to eat – very high in antioxidants and vitamin E.

He also suggested taking vitamin supplements. For most people I agree – especially if you are not well or are feeling slightly unwell. If I am feeling very slightly tired/sick (which these days is actually hardly at all) then I used to take half a Berocca in the morning and half in the evening (because these are not slow release vitamins). If you do take Berocca, make sure that you drink it as soon as it has dissolved because vitamin C goes off in water very, very quickly. Besides, I figure it can’t hurt – these water soluble vitamins if they don’t get used just get peed out. The only time I would not recommend taking supplements is if you have a medical condition that would suffer if you took the supplements. For example, I have HH (Hereditary Haemochromatosis) which is a genetic iron overload problem and means that I should not deliberately increase my vitamin C artificially because it encourages iron absorption, nor should I be taking any iron supplements.

Another interesting thing that Dr Oz had on was a girl with stage 3 cancer who basically had her cancer in remission because she radically changed her diet to good food – all high antioxidant food.
